Five-time Grammy®-winning opera star Kathleen Battle returns to D.C. with a powerful program of songs inspired by the secret network that helped transport 19th-century slaves to freedom. She brings “remarkable freshness and beauty” (The New York Times) to classic spirituals and traditional pieces, including “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” and “Wade in the Water,” performed with the Howard University Choir led by Dr. Eric Poole. Pianist Joel A. Martin also joins the program.
